If you've been to Formentera you know its beaches are out of this world. But the best ones — the real ones — don't appear on Google Maps and can't be reached by car. You can only get there by boat.
Here are the 5 you absolutely cannot miss.
1. Platja de Ses Illetes
Considered one of the 10 best beaches in Europe, Ses Illetes has waters so transparent it looks like the Caribbean. From the boat you can anchor right in front and enter the water directly from the swim platform. No crowds, no beach bars, no noise.
2. S'Espalmador Island
An uninhabited island between Ibiza and Formentera that can only be reached by boat. It has an inner lagoon with green waters and white sand seabed. The kind of place you thought no longer existed.
3. Cala Saona
The most photogenic cove in Formentera. Red stone cliffs, electric blue water and very few people because land access is difficult. Perfect for snorkelling — the seabed is spectacular.
4. Coves des Racó Blanc
Sea caves at the southern tip of Formentera. Only accessible from the sea. The boat glides slowly between the rocks and inside there is a stillness and light that cannot be described.
5. Cala d'Hort
Facing Es Vedrà, the most mythical islet in the Mediterranean. This cove is the best place in the world to watch the sunset. The water is crystal-clear and the view of Es Vedrà at dusk is something you will never forget.
